PIA ENGSTRÖM AGESEN

Pia Engström Agesen originally from Denmark, studied at the Academy of Fine Art in Aarhus, Denmark. Pia’s ceramic work is deeply rooted in the natural qualities of clay and organic forms. She often uses only slips, allowing the raw beauty of the clay to remain the central focus of each piece. Her work is guided by the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi, where she explores the aesthetics of imperfection, simplicity, and authenticity. She also incorporates contrasts within her pieces: if the clay is rough, she strives for an elegant form, embracing subtle imperfections. Through this approach, Pia seeks a balance of masculine and feminine qualities within each piece. Each work is hand-built with sculptural stoneware clay, bringing an intimate, crafted quality to her art.
